February 2008 - Richmond Oak Conservatories

Richmond Oak    Richmond Oak

A Garden Room Eyrie

Perched high above the surrounding countryside and with fantastic views of the English Channel beyond, this Garden Room Conservatory has recently been completed by Richmond Oak for a client in Devon.

Great thought went into ensuring that this conservatory would complement the open space where it is built. Large panes of glass were used to provide unobscured views of the local scenery. The glazing is set in folding doors that on warm sunny days can be folded back to give a feeling of even greater spaciousness.

To ensure that ships, fishing boats and other sea-craft can be viewed as they sail by, a glass-fronted balcony has been fitted at the front of the conservatory, while one side leads directly to the garden.

The high oak-beamed roof and use of white paint on the ceiling also add to the spaciousness that makes this conservatory such a wonderful place to spend time in and the owners have furnished the space using light colours and ensured it remains uncluttered.

Although the conservatory is a modern design, the oak beams and the rest of the oak construction make it fit harmoniously with the existing property. It is a unique design and yet another example of Richmond Oak’s bespoke approach to conservatory design and construction

A Steel portal frame was built into the structure to carry the weight of the roof and decking. 12 microspot lighting system built into the ceiling along with chandeliers, all working off dimmer switches for a variety of lighting effects.

November 2007 - English Rose Conservatories

English Rose Conservatories

This months featured installation is actually a "work in progress" and shows a most unusual conservatory built on a large London Town House overlooking the Thames. The photos show one of the UK's more unusual conservatory installations and is a fine example of the creativity of the Installation Company in actually completing an installation on a very difficult site.

This conservatory was added to a floor town house. It is situated on the bank of the river Thames opposite the O2, AKA The Dome. It is next door but 1 to Lady Hamiltons former house (Nelsons' mistress). It is 1 of only 28 Houses actually on the bank of the Thames between the black wall tunnel and Tower Bridge. The house value is estimated at £3.7 million pounds. The area is called Cold Harbour in London E14. The area is a designated Conservation area.

We had to remove the existing roof and replace it with an 8.5m Victorian end Conservatory. The sides were both box gutters and the glass was bronze anti-sun. We had to reinforce the floor, plaster inside, electrics and ahsphalt seal externally. The walls were timber stud and render.

Installation took 4 weeks to complete.
